5 Areas Where Coaching Could Improve Your Life

how life coaching can help you.jpg

Recently, a local business leader asked me, “What type of clients or situations should I refer to you for coaching?”  What an honor to be asked that question.

It speaks to two things, 1) It shows that he has faith in me as a coach and, 2) he cares enough for others personally to recommend coaching!

My answer was that he should refer women who feel stuck and want to grow. It’s that simple! Let’s talk about some specific areas where women feel stuck and would benefit from coaching:

1. Career Change

Many women feel unsatisfied with their jobs and want to make a change. It can be stressful and overwhelming to know where to start. .

We make career decisions at all ages and phases of life, such as:

  • Graduating college or high school

  • Being in a job for a long time and needing a change

  • Retiring from one career and looking for something different

  • Entering the workforce after being out of it for a time

  • Recently hired and the job is not what you expected

We may know some of our interests, gifts, and skills, but we need help navigating through all the options to find out what we really do or don’t want to do as a career.  A coach has tools to help you find the path that best works for you.

2. Relationship Growth

Relationships are a huge part of our lives. And sometimes, we need a little help looking within ourselves to discover the true essence of what we seek in dating, marriage, family, friendships or coworking relationships.

A coach can help you identify problem areas in your relationships and works to define and implement an improvement plan.

Some examples of where a coach can help are:

  • Make your current relationship more joyful and fun

  • Improve your marriage

  • Get over an ex-romantic partner

  • Resist the temptation of having an affair

  • Dealing with a frustrating coworker

  • Dealing with a boss that is either overbearing or overly passive

  • Develop new, healthier patterns with family members

Coaching does not address past trauma or replace relationship/couples therapy. However, it does provide the tools you need to move forward in a practical way. A coach is like a personal trainer for your relationships!

3. Health Goals

Many of us set health goals, only to falter and be frustrated. Why does that happen? A coach can help you look at your goals and discuss obstacles that keep you from moving forward.

Areas of focus can be:

  • Weight management

  • Healthy food choices

  • Managing a chronic illness

  • Developing an exercise routine

We will work together on a plan that helps you reach your own health goals. A coach offers accountability and encouragement along the way!

4. Spiritual Life

Our spiritual walk is often not as straight as we wish it were. Though God never leaves us, at times He can feel far away. There can be many different things that could be interfering with your spiritual life being where you wish it would be.

Areas of focus could be:

  • Struggles with a particular sin

  • General apathy toward God

  • Being hurt by another believer or church body

  • Being confident in who God made you to be

A coach can help you talk through this and meet you where you are. A coach can then help you envision where you would like to be spiritually and develop some practical steps on how to improve your connection and relationship with God.

5. Personal Development

You may have personal aspirations outside of the areas listed above.

This could include any of the following:

  • Writing a book

  • Learning an instrument

  • Finding a hobby that you actually enjoy

  • Developing certain character traits such as patience, gentleness, generosity etc.

  • Learning to be more adventurous

  • Learning to be more disciplined

  • Finding purpose in your life

All of these things can be wonderful, but sometimes we get stuck and lose our energy to make them happen. A coach can offer you the support and help you find the focus you need to move forward with your personal growth.

Taking the Next Step

All of these areas are important to us and can cause frustration if we feel we aren’t where we want to be. It’s hard to get “unstuck.” There’s no magic answer or standard that works for everyone because we are all so different. A coach can help you figure out the best path for you!
